Help Within
the FASD Community |
| |
Within
the FASD community there is a serious need for assisted living centers
and job training in safe, drug and alcohol free environments with supervision
by people who understand their disabilities. One of our main goals is
to improve the quality of life for people with FASD and their caregivers.
They deserve a chance to have a measured quality of life. They need
assistance. If they do not get it, most will become victims of themselves
- making bad decisions and engaging in inappropriate or illegal behaviors.
The purpose of Know Him: |
|
|
- Create an assisted
living center, long and short-term, for those who have FASD.
|
-
Reduce
the effects of secondary disabilities which are inherent to those
with Fetal Alcohol (such as trouble with the law and imprisonment,
inappropriate sexual behavior, mental health issues, homelessness,
victims of violence and scams, major employment problems, and early
death)
|
- Create a safe,
stable, culturally sensitive, and meaningful place for its residents
where their disability will be understood.
|
- Create jobs
and provide jobs training for its residents.
|
- Teach life
skills to its residents.
|
- Raise awareness
about the intervention and support necessary to maximize potential
for people with FASD.
|
- Educate the
public, especially those having or working with Fetal Alcohol children
or adults about day-to-day life skills, through public speaking,
documentaries, pamphlets, and multimedia.
|
- Work in partnership
with other individuals, families and professional groups to determine
methods and materials to assess, educate, and communicate the challenges
facing those with fetal alcohol exposure issues.
|
- Create a recreational-educational,
retreat center in the wilderness.
|
- Become a role
model for other centers.
